The Kidd Trophy Waikato vs Bay of Plenty 2023

It was a sombre start to Sunday with the All Blacks losing, but soon the keenly anticipated bowls competition kicked everyone back into gear although a blustery day at Tauranga South made the conditions very difficult to play in.

The event involved two rounds over the day and the morning games were closely fought. The Bay of Plenty 1-5 year junior teams both had convincing wins, while in the premier division it was the Waikato men that came out with a hiss and a roar winning three of the four disciplines. While the Bay of Plenty Women established a narrow advantage two and a half to one and a half, enabling Bay of Plenty to head to the break 20 -12 ahead in the combined competition.

In the afternoon both Bay of Plenty Women’s teams had outstanding results winning the majority of their encounters. Unfortunately the 1-5 junior men didn’t have such a good second round going down in all four disciplines. Thankfully the Premier men got their game together and came back to square the ledger at four matches each for the day  with their counterparts, to allow Bay of Plenty to maintain their early advantage and win the overall fixture.
