General Selection Criteria

Players are assessed in three key areas:

1. Performance

2. Attributes and Attitudes

3. Skills




Performance Measures


Participation and success in the following areas over the current and previous season are key areas of consideration. These will include:


• Club, Centre, National and International Championships

• Performance in squad trials and training sessions

• Evaluate all key events (Centre and higher) and report back to squad coach

on:

o Personal assessment of performance

o Areas that need work

o Plan of action to address those areas

o Evidence of actions at weekly (or agreed) intervals


Attributes and Attitudes


These elements of players personality can enhance or disrupt a team. It is essential that all players in the squad display the necessary attributes and attitudes that benefit the player, squad and the Centre. At all times players are expected to:


• Show respect to:

o Themselves

o Other players and officials within the squad

o Other teams, team officials, event officials and spectators when representing the Centre

• Be an advocate for the centre promoting it in a good light wherever possible

• Support the selectors and coach

• Attend and be an active, encouraging part of team training sessions

• Understand and accept they may not be selected for a particular event

• Understand and accept they may not be in a position they would prefer to

play

• Willingness to accept and work on feedback received from the coach and/or

selector

• Set, review and achieve goals for the season

• Abide by the BOP Bowls Code of Conduct rules


Skills


All players need to show the hunger and willingness to train beyond their comfort zone. Skills training drills should be created by the player with guidance from the coach as needed. All drills need to be measured to assess progress.


Training includes, but is not limited to:

• Specific shot capability

• Mental Skills

• Physical Fitness

• Communication

• Understanding the roles of each position in each discipline
